Understanding Our Digital Ingredients

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit websites. For MarkVex, they're not about surveillance—they're about curation. They allow us to remember your preferences, analyze which app genres resonate most with our community in Germany, and ensure the portfolio pages load quickly on your mobile device during a commute.

Visual: Encrypted data flow pattern

We categorize cookies into two essential types for MarkVex. Essential cookies are strictly necessary for the site to function—think remembering your cookie consent choices or keeping you logged into our developer portal. Analytical cookies help us understand which sections of our portfolio receive the most engagement, allowing us to refine our curation for the German gaming market. We use anonymized data only, and it's never shared with third-party advertisers.

E

Essential Cookies

These are non-negotiable. They remember your language preference, your cookie consent, and keep sessions secure when you're exploring our developer portal. Without them, the site simply won't work.

  • Session management (1 hour)
  • Consent storage (1 year)
  • Security token (15 min)
A

Analytical Cookies

These help us understand which game genres (puzzle, strategy, narrative) attract our German audience. Data is aggregated and anonymized. We track page interactions, not personal behavior.

  • Page view counts (6 months)
  • Genre click patterns (3 months)
  • Device type (anonymized, 1 month)
P

Preference Cookies

Optional cookies that remember your UI choices—like dark mode or which platform you filter for. These enhance your experience but aren't required for basic browsing.

  • UI theme (1 year)
  • Platform filters (3 months)
  • Content preferences (6 months)

How to Control Your Cookies

Privacy vs. Personalization: A Trade-off Lens

For a curation site, this is the central tension. Here's how we navigate it—and what would change our approach.

Priority
Privacy-First (Current)
Default state: collect minimal data, no tracking, no shared cookies
Personalization-Driven
Collect behavioral data for tailored recommendations
Pros
  • • Meets strict GDPR standards
  • • Builds trust with German users
  • • Zero risk of data breaches
  • • More relevant content
  • • Higher engagement metrics
  • • Better developer insights
Cons
  • • Less personalized experience
  • • Harder to optimize content
  • • Limited analytics
  • • Privacy concerns
  • • Complex consent management
  • • Regulatory risk

What Would Change Our View

We would consider more robust personalization only if: 1) A major platform policy shift makes it mandatory (e.g., all sites must offer personalized feeds), 2) User feedback consistently indicates our current approach limits discovery in ways that harm engagement, or 3) We develop a fully client-side personalization engine that requires no server-side data storage. Currently, none of these conditions are met.
